I have 2 student loans. One of them is through American Educations Services, and the other one is through Sallie Mae. I’m having a hard time keeping up with both of them along with my other bills (rent, car, insurance, etc.) What is the best way to go about consolidating them together, or is that even possible? Thanks in advance.

  1. The guy on the phone is telling me that they all offer the same deal and the same services, but I don’t believe him. Does it matter if I go with Academic Financial Services (AFS) or Sallie Mae or any other company, or are they really all the same?
  2. I have a bunch of student loans and i get a lot of junk mail about consolidating. Who is the best to use for consolidating? What type of payments and interest rates can i expect. I have about 8 different student loans out there, from 4 years of school. Some are private, some are federal.
  3. These crooks known as Sallie Mae have screwed me. Two years ago I started receiving my student loans, and the interest rate at the time was only 2%. I even have a sheet of paper stating that. My total in loans was $42,000. I get my statement in the mail last week and suddenly I owe them $57,000 and they jacked up my interest rate to nearly 18%. I nearly cried. I called Sallie Mae right away stating, I cannot pay $688.00 a month it is just ludicrous. I only have a couple more weeks to find a cheap, but very respectable loan consolidation company. My sister uses Nelnet, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet. For all of you college graduates what is a cheap, but VERY respectable and honest Student Loan Consolidation company? You can email me with details if you’d like. Thank You.
  4. I’m a recent college graduate, and it seems that all of the banks which used to offer consolidation services are no longer. Do you know of any banks or loan agencies that are still consolidating?
  5. I have a few loans from Sallie Mae. I would like to consolidate them into one loan, hopefully at a lower interest rate. Does anyone have any suggested companies that you have dealt with for student loan consolidation?

Sallie Mae biedt veel informatie op hun website, met inbegrip van een rekenmachine, zodat u kunt aansluiten op uw geleende bedrag en zie wat uw betalingen zouden worden, afhankelijk van welke afbetalingsplan u cl]Consolidation will allow you to choose a longer repayment term (up to 30 yrs, depending on your loan amount) which will give you the cushion of lower monthly payments. However, a longer term means you will pay more interest over the life of the loan (just like if you payed only the minimum on your credit card).

Sallie Mae offers lots of information on their website, including a calculator so you can plug in your loan amount and see what your payments would be, depending on which repayment plan you choose.
